At age 16, Laura knew she wanted to become an RD. She had just become a vegetarian. Her older brother worried about her nutrition status and bought her “Nutrition for Dummies”. She got hooked on the science of nutrition and followed her passion to study Nutrition Sciences at Cornell University. After completing her dietetic internship at Mayo Clinic Florida, she was lucky to find her niche in metabolic & bariatric surgery and has practiced around the country since 2009 in the inpatient, outpatient, and telehealth settings. Y habla español! She has Spanish proficiency.
She has worked from coast to coast in bariatric surgery - she was the bariatric nutrition manager at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA, and the bariatric coordinator and nutrition program manager at Northwest Weight & Wellness in Everett, WA.
She presented her first webinar in 2012 and discovered a second passion - presenting evidence-based guidelines in an engaging style with applicable takeaways. She helps health care providers understand the practical applications from research studies and how to implement them to improve health outcomes. In group sizes ranging from dozens to thousands, Laura thrives on opportunities to educate health care providers on best practices in obesity and diabetes management.
Laura has held leadership positions in professional organizations including the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Weight Management Dietetic Practice Group, the Commission on Dietetic Registration, and the National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators. She has received multiple awards in nutrition practice and communication.
When she’s not hard at work, you’ll find her on the flying trapeze, traveling with her husband and pup, or having video chats with her parents, siblings, and nephews.
